Whether you’re overwhelmed by racing thoughts, struggling with focus, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or searching for a greater sense of identity and self-understanding, Karo provides a calm, collaborative space to explore what’s getting in the way and build the insight and skills needed to move forward. With a strong foundation in evidence-based therapy and deep cultural awareness, his work supports clients from all walks of life, including racially and culturally diverse communities.
Clinical Focus
Karo supports clients experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, and PTSD. Whether it’s persistent worry, difficulty sleeping, mood swings, or trouble concentrating, he works collaboratively with clients to understand how their symptoms impact day-to-day functioning, relationships, and emotional well-being. His therapeutic work focuses on reducing distress while building long-term coping strategies that empower clients to reclaim a sense of control in their lives.
Many of Karo’s clients are navigating identity exploration, executive functioning challenges, and life transitions. These may include adjusting to adulthood, changes in family or relationship roles, or managing expectations across personal and cultural values. Karo helps clients gain insight into how their past experiences—including family dynamics, social messages, and internalized beliefs—contribute to their current emotional landscape.
He is also experienced in supporting individuals dealing with interpersonal conflict, workplace stress, grief and loss, and communication difficulties. Clients struggling with nontraditional or alternative relationship dynamics find in Karo a therapist who affirms their values and relationship structures without judgment. His culturally responsive lens ensures that therapy is inclusive, respectful, and aligned with each client’s unique background and lived reality.
Karo’s clinical work is grounded in a trauma-informed approach. He helps clients understand how unresolved trauma may manifest as emotional dysregulation, self-doubt, or avoidance behaviors. Through this work, clients can begin to untangle the emotional weight they carry, increase self-awareness, and learn healthier ways to cope, relate, and heal. Karo’s warm and steady presence creates a safe environment for clients to do this deep, meaningful work at their own pace.
Therapeutic Approach
Karo uses a person-centered, strength-based, and goal-oriented approach to therapy. His clinical work draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, attachment theory, and mindfulness-based practices. Sessions are designed to be safe, nonjudgmental, and personalized—giving clients the emotional support and psychological tools to reduce distress and increase resilience.
Background, Education & Experience
Karo earned his Master of Social Work (MSW) from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. He is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Maryland. His clinical training has included working with individuals experiencing severe mental illness as well as those facing quieter but persistent struggles with identity, overwhelm, and emotional disconnection. His work is grounded in cultural humility, social justice values, and the belief that clients are the experts on their own lives.
